truffle weekend - every January |

FOR ALL THINGS TRUFFILICIOUS
Le Foulon is in Truffle country and we love them. To celebrate the year's harvest we have a weekend of all things truffle. Arrive on Friday in time for a gourmet meal and some fine wines, or get here on Saturday for the first event: a visit with Christoph to his local truffle tree plantation. Christoph is a top character, and speaks brilliant English with a great accent after a spell working in a London Indian restaurant. He now farms organic vegetables, grows saffron for some of the best restaurants in Cannes (including the Martinique) and has planted 150 Oak trees impregnated with the truffle. |
They are a few years away from producing, but it's an interesting visit in beautiful countryside with a far reaching view of the Cheiron and Courmette mountains. There are no promises as truffle locations are a closely guarded secret, but buy Christoph a drink or three at lunch and he may be persuaded to take you in search of wild truffles with his expert dog Lana. Not much to look at this mutt had truffles rubbed on her mother's teats whilst weaning and if there's a truffle in the woods she'll find it. |
In the evening you can enjoy another fine meal at Le Foulon, or try one of the local restaurants, including "Le Cheiron" in our village of Greolieres - A Michael Winner 'Winner's Dinner' favourite from 2009. |

Start your Sunday morning with a lazy breakfast and the British Sunday press before the weekend's main event - the annual truffle market at nearby Le Rouret. As well as fresh black truffles from Provencal growers there are a host of stands selling truffle related products, direct from small artisanal producers. Truffle scented oil (drizzle a little on pasta), truffle butter, truffle paste and truffle/balsamic reductions that will lift the most ordinary plate of food. All of which will keep in the fridge for up to a year. And buying from the artisan not only supports this tiny industry but will save you a fortune compared to tracking these products down back home. |
Sunday evening we'll be creating more truffle treats in the kitchen - so sit back round the ingle nook fireplace with an aperitif and let the aroma play with your appetite. |

Our usual rate of €28 for a 3 course meal will rise to €40 to reflect the additional cost of the truffle. Our wine list is the same great value it always is, from €16 - €28 per bottle, although we will buy a case or two of something special that will do the truffle justice. |
